The University of Dayton School of Engineering proudly marks a milestone three decades in the making — the 30th anniversary of the Multi-Ethnic Scientists and Engineers Program (MSEP), formerly known as the Multi-Ethnic Engineers Program (MEP). What began in 1996 as a bold commitment to change who could belong in engineering has grown into one of the most meaningful and enduring programs in UD's history.

A New Chapter: MEP Becomes MSEP

The UD School of Engineering has grown. With the additions of computer science and physics to the School of Engineering's programs of study — and with continued restructuring of STEM at UD on the horizon — a new and expanding community of students has come through the door. With them comes an expanded opportunity to serve.

In the spirit of a program that has always risen to meet the moment, MEP is proud to announce its next evolution: the Multi-Ethnic Scientists and Engineers Program (MSEP), pronounced M-Sep.

This is an answer to a call. As the landscape around us continues to change, we change with it because our commitment has never been to a name or a structure. It has always been to the students. MSEP widens the circle, extending the community-centered, student-first approach that has defined this program to now include all science students within the School of Engineering family. Computer science and physics students will find in MSEP the same sense of belonging, curated experiences and unwavering investment in their success that MEP alumni have carried with them throughout their careers.

The work ahead is new, and we embrace that. Supporting a community more diverse in discipline than ever before calls on us to think differently, engage more creatively and build in ways we haven't before. There will be learning as we grow into this expanded mission, and we welcome it. Because learning and growing together is exactly what this community has always done.

Our workshop series gives MSEP students hands-on experience, professional development and community connection throughout the academic year. Volunteer your time, share your expertise or help us resource these sessions so every student can participate fully.

One of the most powerful things you can offer an emerging STEM professional is your story and your time. As a mentor, you'll help an MSEP scholar navigate their academic journey, explore career paths and build confidence in who they are as future engineers and scientists. STEM Summer Bridge Program

This past summer, we celebrated a major milestone within a milestone: the STEM Summer Bridge Program turned 20 years old! This beloved program prepares incoming engineering and science students for the academic rigor and community of STEM at UD before their first semester even begins.
