Intern Housing

We offer affordable housing for students engaged in local internships or similar experiential learning opportunities from other accredited colleges and universities. Staying in UD housing provides an opportunity to meet new people, be part of a vibrant community and explore the city of Dayton. Our comfortable residence halls and apartments are designed to support interns with the best living conditions to achieve their goals and objectives.

Intern Housing Eligibility and Requirements

Are there any requirements to qualify for intern housing?

  • Interns must be 18 years of age or older and must be able to provide a valid ID. Interns will be asked for their ID at the time of move-in to confirm age requirement.
  • Interns must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at the time of application. Interns must be able to provide formal documentation such as an unofficial or official college transcript.
  • Interns must have an employment position and be able to provide confirmation of employment by employer.

What are acceptable forms of ID?

Copies of a driver's license, birth certificate or passport are all acceptable forms of identity and age verification.

What is an acceptable proof of internship?

A signed letter from your company's human resources department, direct supervisor or offer letter is an acceptable proof of internship.

Contract and Fees

When is payment due?

Interns must pay full amount prior to move-in date. However, interns have the ability to set up a payment plan. Please contact us at conferences@udayton.edu for further instructions.

How do I cancel my contract?

For contract cancellations, please contact us at conferences@udayton.edu.

I'm a company looking to sponsor several interns. Can I reserve rooms for my interns?

Yes. Companies interested in providing housing for groups of interns are required to contact us two weeks (10 business days) in advance prior to move-in date to make arrangements. Please contact us at conferences@udayton.edu.

Move-In and Move-Out

When and where do I check in?

On the agreed-upon move-in date, interns are able to check in at the front desk of the assigned living space. More information about check-in will be provided closer to the contract dates.

What should I do if I have to arrive after hours?

If unable to check in during designated front desk hours of 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., interns are asked to contact us at conferences@udayton.edu in order to arrange necessary plans for their arrival. In the case of last minute plan changes, interns should contact conferences@udayton.edu or University Public Safety at 937-229-2121 if arriving on campus after check-in hours.

Is extended stay an option?

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer extended stay. Interns must vacate by the end of their agreed contract date.

Housing

Do I have to have a roommate?

All interns are assigned a roommate. Depending on availability of space within the apartment building, interns may have the option of buying out an entire apartment.

What will my apartment look like? What amenities will it have?

Throughout the entire duration of our program, interns are assigned into a two-bedroom apartment where each will have a single room provided with the following amenities:

  • 1 shared bathroom

  • Living room furniture

  • Cable, internet and utilities

  • Full kitchen with appliances

  • Extra long twin beds per room

Please note kitchenware and linens are not provided.

Can I live with people I'm interning with?

Yes. Interns are able to request for specific roommates. Interns must request each other on their applications. Only roommate requests of the same gender will be honored.

Will I find out my roommate information?

Prior to your arrival, names and email addresses of interns within an assigned living space will be sent out. At this time, interns may contact one another.

Will I have a private bathroom?

Each apartment contains one private bathroom shared by the interns within the designated living space.

Will there be a housekeeping service to clean my room?

No. Interns are responsible for the cleanliness of their apartment, bathroom and bedroom. Trash receptacles are located near the residence halls for their convenience.

Are there laundry facilities in the building?

Yes. There is a laundry facility located within the designated building of stay. It is free of charge.

Do you have handicap accessible features?

Yes. Interns are able to request for handicap accessible accommodations within the application.

Are Internet connections available in the apartments?

Yes. There are data ports interns may use to plug into. Nonetheless, interns are responsible for bringing their own Ethernet cord for wired service. Wireless Internet is included and instructions will be provided to connect.

Facilities and Security

How do I access my building? Who else has access to it?

  • Interns are provided with a temporary access card, which provides building access, meal plan payment and access to the campus recreation complex (RecPlex).
  • The main entrance doors for intern housing buildings are closed and accessible only with TAC 24 hours per day.
  • Aside from other interns assigned to a living space within the designated building, University staff may enter the space to address maintenance and health and safety concerns.

What if I lost my key? What if I lost my temporary access card (TAC)?

Interns are responsible for keeping their TAC and keys throughout the duration of their stay. Lost TACs will be billed at $20 per card and lost keys will be billed at $125 per key. A lock change will be completed.

What if I have a maintenance issue? What if it is an emergency and it's past normal business hours?

In case of a maintenance issue, please submit a work order. If a maintenance issue occurs outside of normal business hours, interns are instructed to call Public Safety at 937-229-2121.

What if I'm having an emergency?

In the case of an emergency, call Public Safety at 937-229-2121.

Campus Services and Amenities

Is there parking available near the apartment building? Where can I get a parking pass?

Yes. In order to park in university parking lots, individuals are required to have a parking pass. Interns have the option of purchasing a park pass within the application.
