R&R With LGBTQIA+ Reads

Guided by the Marianist charism, the University of Dayton recognizes that every person has a voice, which is essential for creating authentic community.

The University of Dayton Libraries’ diversity and inclusion team reminds advocates of UD’s foundational values to remember to rest while working through the Civic Engagement, Advocacy and the Marianist Charism wheel. Audre Lorde—writer, professor, and advocate—wrote on the importance of self-care in the epilogue of her essay collection A Burst of Light: “Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” Rest not only allows you to celebrate our diverse community; it gives you the strength to continue.

For Pride Month this June, take a break and read stories and history that illuminate LGBTQIA+ experiences. Borrow one of the titles listed below from Roesch Library or your local library:

  • The Three Lives of Cate Kay, by Kate Fagan
  • Stag Dance, by Torrey Peters
  • Bookshops & Bonedust, by Travis Baldree
  • From Here: A Memoir, by Luma Mufleh
  • Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant: A Memoir, by Curtis Chin
  • The Words That Remain: A Novel, by Stenio Gardel
