University Honors Program

The University of Dayton Honors Program is proud to highlight Mitchell O’Brien, an exceptional senior who has made the most of his college experience through his involvement in Honors opportunities. Graduating in 2025 with majors in International Studies and German, along with minors in Political Science and Pre-Law, Mitchell’s journey in the Honors Program has been transformative.

As we say goodbye to Courtney Kingston, we reflect on the incredible impact she’s had on the University Honors Program and the many ways she’s touched both students and colleagues alike. Over the course of her time with us, Courtney has become a beloved part of the team, and her departure leaves a big gap in our office.

The University of Dayton Honors Program is home to some of the brightest minds on campus, students who are not only excelling in their coursework but also making meaningful contributions to their fields through cutting-edge research. Two such students, Michael Foster and Megan Sieve, recently presented their research in January, showcasing the depth of their knowledge, innovation, and dedication to pushing boundaries in engineering.

The Chaminade Scholars Program might be exactly what you’re looking for. Designed for Honors students, this program combines faith, vocation, and leadership in a close-knit, interdisciplinary environment. Through engaging courses, reflective retreats, and shared experiences, the program helps students discern their calling while building lifelong friendships.

Dreaming of interning abroad while immersing yourself in a vibrant new culture? The Honors Program is excited to introduce the Dublin Flyers, an 8-week summer internship in the heart of Ireland's capital. Open to sophomores and juniors, this unique experience runs from early June to early August, with applications due by November 8th.

After an incredible 40 years of service to the University Honors Program (UHP), Jill Talley will be retiring from the University of Dayton at the end of June.

This year, the University of Dayton Honors Program has begun to invest in recruiting and retaining honors students. To do our best to support our fabulous honors students and make people aware of some of the incredible programs we have to offer we instilled some help from the students themselves. Read about our two new student workers Ikeyaira Metcalf and Lonnie Fleming, and learn exactly what they do and how thrilled we are in the Honors Program to have some new stellar student workers to help aid in the future of the UHP.

Every semester the University of Dayton sends students abroad to Madrid, Spain. This semester one of those incredible students is Junior Ariana Callaghan! Come read about some of the important stories and lessons she has learned since she started her journey of living in Madrid.

Are you starting to consider how to spend your summer? The Berry Summer Thesis Institute is an incredible opportunity that you should consider. Every summer the University of Dayton hosts driven honors students from any major to conduct research before the start of their junior year. If there is a  topic  you are exceptionally interested in, the program provides a $2,000 fellowship, funding for research, and housing here on campus in the summer to dive into the research alongside others  who are likewise focused on furthering their research.
