Honoring Courtney Kingston: A Farewell to a Valued Team Member

By Tara McLoughlin

As we say goodbye to Courtney Kingston, we reflect on the incredible impact she’s had on the University Honors Program and the many ways she’s touched both students and colleagues alike. Over the course of her time with us, Courtney has become a beloved part of the team, and her departure leaves a big gap in our office.

Courtney was integral to so many of our initiatives, from the Honors Student Welcome and Orientation to the Hull Fellowship, Dublin Flyers, and Honors Signature Showcase. She brought a fresh perspective and tireless energy to everything she touched. Whether it was overseeing programs like the Chaminade Scholars or making our social media platforms a place for students to engage, Courtney’s dedication to the student experience was always evident. Her ability to connect with students and her passion for improving their experience in the Honors Program set her apart.

Her colleagues have shared just how much her presence will be missed. Dr. Dorian Borbonus fondly remembers how Courtney made sure to check in every day with the phrase, “I’ll be down here if you need anything.” While simple, it became a hallmark of her dependable and kind nature. As Dr. Borbonus puts it, “That sentiment went to show that the Honors Program won’t be the same without Courtney around. Sad.”

Director Leslie Picca echoes that sentiment, praising Courtney’s approach to her work: “I have been so grateful to work with Courtney in Honors. She is dedicated to doing what is in the best interest of students and works with practicality, efficiency, and good humor. Her reliability, creativity, and fresh perspective will be greatly missed!”

Courtney’s influence was especially felt when she revamped the Honors Student Welcome, a task she took on with enthusiasm and care. Dr. Laura Cotton Howell shares, “Courtney jumped in with both feet, eager to learn and excited to take on so many programs. She received some of the best feedback we’ve gotten in years about Honors Student Welcome, and she made our IG ‘cool again’.  She connected with students through the Honors Signature Showcase and the London and Dublin Flyers programs—her flexibility, creativity, and sense of humor made a lasting impression on all of us.”

Her friend and colleague Gina Lloyd captures another essential part of what made Courtney such a valuable member of the team: “One of the greatest things our team will miss about Courtney is that she willingly took on additional responsibilities and completed her work with efficiency, grace, and professionalism. Her contributions to UHP programming are numerous and have greatly enhanced the opportunities available to Honors students.”

Courtney’s ability to combine reliability with warmth and creativity made her not just a great coworker, but a friend to all who worked with her. As we say goodbye, we’re excited for what’s next for Courtney and confident that she will continue to make an impact in her new role.

Courtney, thank you for all the dedication, creativity, and kindness you’ve shared with us. You will be missed, but we wish you nothing but success in your next adventure!
