A Lesson in Perseverance

For Sukumar Subramanyam Raja, the road to becoming a Flyer was anything but easy.

Growing up in India, Raja earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science and set his sights on pursuing a master’s degree in the United States. However, financial constraints forced him to change his plans.

“I completed my MBA in India and got a job with a good salary,” said Raja. “I saved enough money that, with a loan, I could afford my dream.”

After three years of working, Raja had set aside enough funds to make his move to the United States. He chose the University of Dayton’s Master of Finance program for its affordability, emphasis on experiential learning and strong support for research.

When I compared other universities offering the same course, UD wasn’t as expensive, it’s ranked better, and the course curriculum is stronger,” said Raja.

“UD was a better option financially,” said Raja. “When I compared other universities offering the same course, UD wasn’t as expensive, it’s ranked better, and the course curriculum is stronger.”

Even though Raja already earned one master’s degree and has several years of professional experience, he continues to learn new things every day in the classroom.

“I’m learning about concepts from both a global and a U.S. perspective,” said Raja. “I really like the course structure and the practical, hands-on learning.”

He’s also grown fond of the UD community.

“I was surprised when I saw all the events at UD,” said Raja. “You get to meet so many people. I had no idea before coming here.”

Now, as he hits his stride as a master’s student, Raja is fully embracing life as a Flyer while preparing for his future.

“Once I graduate, I plan to either work at the corporate level or start my own financial company,” he said.
