Enhance Your Learning Experience

Biology majors can choose from several curricular and extra-curricular activities to enhance their learning experience outside the classroom. With faculty-mentored research opportunities, learning in the field, study away and abroad, internships, student organizations, service, there are many ways to get involved and to gain practical experience.

Faculty-Mentored Research

Undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to participate in faculty-mentored research.

Beta Beta Beta: National Honor Society

Beta Beta Beta is a national biological honor society. The University of Dayton chapter, Theta Kappa, is open to all biology and biochemistry majors. The honor society's goals are three-fold: to strengthen the relationships between students and faculty, provide service to the community, and also to provide an awareness of the biological sciences.

UD Emergency Medical Services

Students interested in pursuing a career in health care may find UD Emergency Medical Services is a perfect hands-on learning experience. Internship in Environmental Biology

An internship is required of all environmental biology majors, and is a unique opportunity allowing students to obtain valuable training and on-the-job experience under the mentorship of established scientists and other professionals at local, state and federal government agencies, as well as a wide diversity of environmental firms.

Research and Career Seminar Series

Students can explore biology research and career options by attending our departmental seminars. Invited professionals give seminars on their research and/or present on career paths and job opportunities in their fields. Speakers discuss education, research and training opportunities, job requirements, future job prospects, salary and job descriptions of various biology-related careers. All presentations are followed by a question and answer session and an informal social hour, providing opportunity for one-on-one conversation.
