Prepare for Arrival

Now that you've confirmed your enrollment, you're officially a University of Dayton Flyer! Now it's time to customize your pre-UD experience.

This guide is designed to help you chart your path, understand next steps and learn about campus resources. A more detailed and personalized set of next steps can be found in Porches, the digital portal used by current UD students.

Next Steps for Confirmed Students

If you have confirmed your enrollment, you will receive access to your Porches account beginning in February. Watch for an email inviting you to activate your UD online account so you can begin completing the following items.

Activate Your UD Email Address

When you log in to Porches for the first time, your first task is setting up your UD email account. Click the UD email button to get started.

Once your account is activated, we recommend that you sign in to the account on your mobile phone so you receive notifications of new emails.

Check this email account frequently so you don't miss official University communications. This is the email that UD faculty and staff — including your academic advisor — will use to communicate with you

Complete Pre-Advising Form

You'll complete the Pre-Advising Form on Porches to help your advisor get to know your interests and goals so they can help you create a first-semester schedule that sets you up for success. Your advisor will use the information you provide about any college-level credits you've earned, your academic record and your interest in available programs at UD and more, to recommend course options specific to your major and academic track.

Complete the form as early as possible prior to New Student Orientation, where you'll register for your fall-semester courses.

Register for New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation is your opportunity to prepare for life at UD. In June, you'll spend a full day on campus connecting with the Flyer community, exploring campus resources, registering for first-semester courses, meeting new students and more.

All new students are required to attend orientation on campus. Complimentary lunch is provided, and unlike at other schools, there's no cost to attend orientation.

Registration

To register for orientation, log on to Porches, click on "Register for Orientation."

  • Watch a short video to find out what to expect at the event and explore registration options.
  • Select your preferred date to attend orientation. Sessions have limited capacity and will close when full.
  • Submit the form.

Preparing for Orientation

Learn what to expect at orientation, find a pre-arrival checklist and discover how to make the most most of your time on campus by reviewing details about orientation.

Orientation Day

Spend the day (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) exploring campus, meeting fellow Flyers, and getting the inside scoop from an experienced student guide. View the orientation schedule for additional information.

Parents and guests will join students for much of the day but will also attend separate sessions about student support and campus resources.

View the orientation site for additional details on what to expect, what to bring and more.

Submit Your Housing Contract

Housing Options

One of the most exciting parts of college life is living on campus with friends and classmates. UD guarantees housing for all students who confirm enrollment by May 1, and no additional housing deposit is required.

First-year students live in residence halls, or you can request to commute from home if living with a parent or guardian within 40 miles of campus (commuters must also complete the housing form, to confirm their plans).

Roommate Matching Program

Sharing a room with someone you've just met may make you a little nervous. That's why we encourage new students to take advantage of our highly successful roommate matching program, which pairs students based on compatibility, not random assignment. After completing a questionnaire based on your personal habits and preferences, you'll be matched with a roommate most compatible with you.

Students using our roommate matching program are more likely to choose the same roommate in the future than those who request a specific roommate.

Housing Contract

New students will complete their housing and meal contract through Porches. More information will be available in February 2026.

Select Your Meal Plan

As part of the housing contract, you'll also select a meal plan, if applicable.

  • First-year students living on campus can choose between our standard and flexible meal plans.
  • Commuter students can add a neighborhood plan or add Flyer Express dollars to their account for quick and convenient access to food options on campus.

Complete Health Requirements

To help protect the health of our campus community, the University requires all incoming students to provide immunization records and a tuberculosis (TB) screening questionnaire by June 7.

This information can be uploaded and entered through the student portal.

Complete Community Education Modules

Incoming first-year and transfer students are required to complete four online courses (Community Education Modules) that assist students in developing a shared understanding of the values that we embrace as a Catholic Marianist University.

Note: Students in the UD Sinclair Academy will complete these courses upon transfer to the University of Dayton. International students are required to complete the Hazing Prevention Course; they will receive alternate programming on the other topics.
