Opportunities and Activities
Our students are encouraged to enrich their university experience with a variety of research, service and other learning experiences offered by the program and other University offices.
SERVICE
Students frequently find that their enthusiasm for and willingness to commit to service to others creates an interesting dilemma - how to decide among the dozens of opportunities provided by multiple sources on campus. Students can take classes which include service components and, in some cases, receive additional academic credit for service. Opportunities also exist for involvement in service work when classes are not in session. Groups of students have spent their spring break working in Appalachia and locations in Central America and the Caribbean. A long list of service opportunities in the Dayton area helps students feel they are part of a small, cohesive campus which cares about the larger community. An important component of service is reflecting on the experience with the assistance of a faculty member, campus ministers and other students.
STUDY ABROAD
The Center for International Programs offers many opportunities for global learning. Through their programs, you can learn the crucial difference between a traveler and a tourist, and add the title of global citizen to your list of personal descriptions.
