A Campus Job is More Than Just a Paycheck. It's One Step Closer to Your Career.

Working in an on-campus position through Student Employment is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable skills as well as earn additional income.

All University of Dayton students, regardless of financial need, may apply for employment opportunities on campus. Positions are available in many departments and the hourly rate is based on experience and job description.

Federal Work Study is awarded to undergraduates based on FAFSA results. Any on-campus position (except those at the Research Institute) is eligible to be set up as Federal Work Study. In addition, Community Partner positions are available off-campus. This unique opportunity allows eligible students to work off-campus with local organizations to improve the quality of life for members of the Dayton community.

Additional Employment Information

Eligibility

In order to qualify for student employment positions on campus, you must be a degree-seeking student, be enrolled as part of an exchange program or be enrolled in the Intensive English Program. International students on F-1 and J-1 visas are subject to specific enrollment requirements.

Students who participate in a paid co-op position or paid full-time internship position will not be eligible to work a student position on campus during their work term semesters.

Minimum Credit Hours

Students must take a minimum number of credit hours while employed.

  • Undergraduate: 6 credit hours
  • Graduate: 3 credit hours
  • Law School: 6 credit hours
  • IEP: 18 credit hours in IEP or a combination of level 5 and academic courses

Credit hour minimums are subject to be waived in such cases where a student is entering their final semester at UD or final term of the IEP and does not need to take the minimum credit hours in order to graduate; or when a student participates in a study abroad experience, Semester of Service or an unpaid internship.

The credit hour minimum is waived during the summer semester. Students can work during the summer if they are enrolled in summer classes or intend to register for fall classes.

Incoming First-year Students

Incoming first-year students are eligible to pursue employment during the summer as long as they have graduated from high school, have been accepted to the University, submitted their enrollment deposit and are registered for the minimum number of credit hours for the fall semester.

Transient Students

Transient students are not considered degree-seeking and are not eligible for University of Dayton student employment.

International Students

International students on F-1 and J-1 visas are subject to specific enrollment requirements. Contact International Student and Scholar Services for more information.

Working Hours

Student working hours are limited so that students can remain focused on their academics as well as for the University to be in compliance with the Affordable Care Act.

Fall and Spring Semesters

Students may work 20 hours or less per week during the fall and spring semesters (all jobs combined). A work week begins at 12:00 a.m. on Monday and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

Summer and Breaks

Students who work during the summer semester must intend to register for fall classes or be finishing up degree requirements in order to work through Student Employment.

During the summer semester and breaks that are at least a week or longer, students may generally work up to 35 hours per week.

However, undergraduates who take 12+ credit hours and graduate students who take 6+ credit hours during a summer session are limited to working 20 hours a week during the session in which they are enrolled.

UD students working through the Engineering Co-op Program are not subject to the hours per week limitation.
