To establish expectations for the conduct of faculty evaluations. Faculty evaluations serve to assess the quality of the performance of each faculty member relative to his or her own personal goals and to the goals of the department, the program, and the University. Conduct of evaluations encourages and tracks professional development of faculty members as a means of making decisions concerning merit-based reward, retention, and/or tenure.

Policy
At the University of Dayton all faculty and administrators shall undergo periodic performance evaluations.
The evaluative processes used (i.e. student, peer, administrative, and self-evaluations) shall take into consideration input from faculty, students, and administrators. The evaluations themselves shall also include input from students, peers, the relevant departmental chairperson, program director or dean, and the faculty member him/herself.
Evaluative tools will be chosen to best suit purposes of growth and development of both faculty members and the University, as opposed to a means of assessment tailored to considerations of retention and reward.
