Kelly Mallon Young has turned her passion for community into a global force for good.
Young’s journey began at UD where she volunteered with Christmas on Campus and visited local senior communities. After graduating in 1991, she built a successful career in sales. Following an early retirement to spend time with her three sons, she shifted her focus to helping turn a fledgling nonprofit into a million-dollar enterprise.
At the request of her cousin Patty, who is a Catholic sister, Young helped design a cutting-edge technology platform with her biological sister for Sisters Rising Worldwide, a nonprofit that connects people to nuns’ missions and nuns to each other.
The Sisters Rising Worldwide platform maps where sisters are working, challenges they’re addressing and resources they need. It also enables sisters to share best practices, communicate across languages and collaborate globally.
Young brings a rare mix of strategic insight, statistical acumen and sales expertise to the mission. She recognizes the brilliance in the sisters’ grassroots solutions and connects them with donors who want to make meaningful change. While donors share their philanthropic goals with Young, the sisters are listening to their communities and working to dismantle injustice at its roots.
From women’s empowerment, healthcare, education, job training and anti-trafficking efforts, the impact is profound. With more than 80% of the sisters’ work focused on protecting the vulnerable, Young’s leadership is helping change the world one connection at a time.
