Alumni and Friends Making an Impact

Johanna Hartley ’17

For Johanna Hartley ’17, chasing her dreams meant staying in Dayton after graduating. With a robust background working at various Dayton-based companies, she has cultivated a diverse portfolio of community engagement. In her current role, Hartley is the business development manager for Messer Construction Co. and enjoys being part of the growth and revitalization of the Dayton community.

Hartley continues to learn, lead and serve by guiding the next wave of community leaders. She serves UD’s Kappa Delta sorority as a chapter advisory board member, and since Messer Construction is currently building the new Roger Glass Center for the Arts, Hartley remains connected to her Flyers roots through her work.

She extends her community impact by serving as president of the South Dayton Young Professionals group, an associate board member of Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and the volunteerism committee chair for the Dayton Chamber. She previously served on the Culture Works and Dayton Region Manufacturing boards.

Reflecting on her time at UD, one of her favorite memories is unexpectedly running into her mother on her last day of classes during her senior year. Her mother worked at UD at the time, but the two had never organically crossed paths on campus during her four years until that day. It was an encounter that left both of them with a smile.
