College is filled with new experiences, challenges, and opportunities to grow. For sophomore Deily Alvarenga Pinto, the Honors Program has provided a community in which she can challenge herself, meet new people who support her, and find space where she genuinely feels a sense of belonging.
One such space where Deily finds community is the honors student lounge in Alumni Hall. “I love walking in and seeing my friends, grabbing a cup of coffee, and feeling like I’m in a space where I truly belong. We’re all working toward our own goals, but we’re doing it together. On days when I’m tired or completely done with everything, I know I can come to the honors lounge, take a break, and be surrounded by friends and good energy. It has become more than just a place to study, it feels like a home on campus.”
When not in the honors student lounge, Deily finds comfort and focus on the second floor of Roesch Library by the windows. It is a peaceful space that allows her to study while still appreciating the nature around campus. Watching the scenery change throughout the different seasons is a reminder that there are so many beautiful spaces at UD where you can slow down, focus, and enjoy your surroundings.
“Coming into college can feel overwhelming, but finding a community like Honors can make UD feel like home,” according to Deily. For future Flyers considering the Honors Program, she emphasizes that it offers more than academics. And that is very true. The Honors Program offers a place to find your people, challenge yourself, make memories and hopefully discover the honors student lounge with an amazing coffee bar.
We’re glad you’re here, Deily!
