Johanna Gohmann has written satire for The New Yorker's Daily Shouts and McSweeney's, and her humor essays have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Cut, Jezebel, Romper, Cup of Jo, among other publications.
Gohmann's work is included in several anthologies, and she was a finalist in the 2026 Erma Bombeck Writing Competition. Her humor book All Toddlers Are Scorpios — An Astrological Guide to Your Adorable Tiny Terror (featuring illustrations from Thurber Prize-winning cartoonist Emily Flake) was released in April.
Gohmann, who lives in Brooklyn, New York, is also a regular performer around New York City, and a two-time winner of The Moth.
"I make sure to laugh really hard at least once a day, because one, it feels good and keeps me from punching a window and two, it allows people to glimpse my impressive uvula, which is clear and the size of a cue ball," she says.
