Who's Publishing What: Amy in Retrograde

Amy in Retrograde: Desperately Seeking Rewiring (G Editions) is a wickedly funny memoir by Amy Ferris about seeking answers everywhere when they all reside within yourself. It will be released March 31 but is available for pre-orders.

"Amy Ferris’ fiercely funny book is a Valentine to those seeking spiritual solace, and like the very words she uses to describe all things ‘out there,’ it’s a read that’s weird, amazing and so wonderfully good,” said Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Days of Wonder. “(It’s) a fabulous travelogue towards hope and to your own inner knowing. I love this book so much.”

Marta F. Kauffman, co-creator of Friends and Grace and Frankie, offers advance praise in the foreword: “Amy's prose is lyrical and rhythmic and can only be compared to a song. She is truthful about her experiences. Her writing is quirky and unexpected. I love Amy's humor.”

Ferris is an author, writer, screenwriter, editor and playwright. Her young adult novel, A greater Goode, was published by Houghton Mifflin in 1999. Her memoir, Marrying George Clooney, Confessions From a Midlife Crisis (Seal Press, 2008) was adapted into an off-Broadway play in 2012. In 2026, Kauffman will direct a one-woman play based on that memoir.

Her memoir, Mighty Gorgeous: A Little Book About Messy Love (She Writes Press) came out in 2023. She also co-authored Old School Love (HarperCollins, 2020) with Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons and Justine Simmons.

Ferris has written for television and feature films. As a screenwriter, she co-wrote Mr. Wonderful and was nominated for a Best Screenplay Award (BET, Black Reel Award) for her adaptation of the film, Funny Valentines.

As an editor, she curated Shades of Blue: Writers on Depression, Suicide and Feeling Blue and co-edited the anthology, Dancing at the Shame Prom, all from Seal Press. Her work has been included in numerous anthologies, and she’s won several prestigious awards.
