When not plotting future adventures, Bombeck, a retired elementary school teacher, entertains himself by playing the guitar and singing “This Land is Your Land” and Bob Marley songs in the dining room of a Phoenix homeless shelter. He also promotes organ and tissue donation, plays tennis and hikes when not injured.
The son of the great humorist Erma Bombeck, he says his greatest hope “isn’t world peace, but someday, Michael Bombeck will read this book dedicated to him.”
He’s the author of two other travel books, Traveler’s Diarrhea and More Traveler’s Diarrhea.
