R.L. Maizes is the author of the newly published satirical novel, A Complete Fiction (Ig Publishing), a humorous story of two writers trying to navigate the minefields of modern publishing and social media.
Maizes’s humor pieces have appeared in McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, The New York Times, The Belladonna, Electric Literature and elsewhere. Her debut novel, Other People’s Pets (Celadon Books, Macmillan), won the 2021 Colorado Book Award in Fiction and was a Library Journal Best Debut of Summer/Fall 2020. She’s also the author of the short story collection We Love Anderson Cooper (Celadon Books).
Her story, "The Infidelity of Judah Maccabee," aired on National Public Radio, and she received a 2024-2025 fellowship grant from the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture for her novel-in-progress, Beanie.
A native of Queens, New York, she now lives in Boulder County, Colorado, with her husband, Steve, and her muses: Rosie, a dog who spent her first year homeless in South Dakota and thinks Colorado is downright balmy, and the ghost of Arie the cat.
