We curated a few of the best writing competitions (and one fellowship opportunity) that writers can enter right now.

Our partner, the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, is accepting entries from columnists, bloggers and essayists for its annual competition. You don’t have to be a NSNC member to enter your work. Deadline: April 15. You can find the categories and guidelines here.

Writer’s Digest, our co-sponsor, is accepting submissions for its annual writing competition. Early bird deadline: May 5. Almost 500 winners will be chosen. For details on categories and prizes, visit this web page.

The Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Writing Contest, sponsored by Winning Writers, is seeking funny poems. No entry fee, with $3,750 in prizes available. Deadline: April 1. Submit here.

I-70 Review offers the Bill Hickok Humor Award for a single unpublished poem. Winner will receive $1,000 and publication in the magazine. Submit 1-3 unpublished poems with a $15 entry fee. Deadline: Feb. 28. Guidelines here.

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Creative Writing Fellowships program offers $50,000 grants in prose (fiction and creative nonfiction) to published creative writers that enable writers to set aside time for writing, research, travel and career advancement.
