From My Funny Bone (Hopefully) to Yours

Garret Mathews has published a free humor book, From My Funny Bone (Hopefully) to Yours, a collection of 46 columns.

Mathews wrote columns and features for the Daily Telegraph in Bluefield, West Virginia, before moving on to write the metro column for the Evansville Courier for 24 years. In all, he’s penned more than 6,500 columns.

In 2000, he was named columnist of the year for Scripps-Howard newspapers. He has also won several awards from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists and the Society of Professional Journalists.

His books include Swing, Batta (Michigan State University Press) about coaching 10-year-old baseball players, and Defending My Bunk Against All Comers, Sir! (Zone Press) about a scared basic trainee during the Vietnam War.

His theatrical play about the civil rights movement, "Jubilee in the Rear View Mirror," has been performed three times, and his one-act about the fading newspaper industry, "Kill The Column," was a part of the 2015 Indy Fringe Festival.
