Humor Writer of the Month: Angela Verges

Angela Verges is the author of Menopause Ain’t No Joke — Blending Faith and Humor in Perfectly Imperfect Situations and an e-book, Laughter H.E.L.P.S.

Angie’s menopause book was birthed after her participation in a pageant for African American women 50 and older when she performed two minutes of comedy as her talent. She riffed about her weight gain, wacky kids and wild chin hairs, then ended with this truism, "Menopause ain’t no joke."

That 2017 pageant was also the beginning of Angie’s path to stand-up comedy. The four-time Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop attendee began enrolling in comedy classes and has performed during the workshop's stand-up comedy show as well as on stages in Michigan and Ohio. In July, she competed in the Ladies of Laughter competition in New Jersey. Angie’s passion for all things humorous keeps her coming back to the stage.

She's been interviewed on Gina Berry Ramsey's podcast, Laugh Lines and Turbulence. Her essays have been published in the Crazy Wisdom Journal, including her most recent piece, "Fall into Fitness — Seven Fun Ways to Ease Into Fitness."

Angie likes to leave her audiences with the mantra, “A laugh a day keeps stress at bay.”
