Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop

Erma Made Me Do It!

We're searching for real-life success stories. What's yours?

If you’ve attended the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop, you know that its vibe is inspirational — and magical.

What’s been the magic for you? Did you get a book idea, publish an essay, find an agent, try stand-up comedy, form a writing group, win a contest? We want to hear how the workshop has helped you achieve a writing dream. Were looking for the Erma stars.

Submit your stories by either filling out this Google form or creating and uploading a short video clip (15-20 seconds, max!) on this platform by March 12. Or do both!

A selection of success stories will be edited into a longer piece to be shared during the workshop and with the larger Erma writing community. (You do not have to be registered for the April 4-6 Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop to participate.)

As a follow up, Kathy Shiels Tully, a Boston-based journalist, magazine writer and essayist, will lead a new, optional session, both an orientation and welcome-back hour, for in-person attendees at the spring workshop. “Erma Made Me Do It!” is slated for 7:45-8:45 a.m., Friday, April 5, in Alumni Center North near the Riverview Café. Grab breakfast, then head over to hear success stories from previous attendees inspired by Erma and to share your own.

“This new kick-off sessionespecially for new attendees, will jump-start writers meeting other writers and feeling the workshop’s vibe,” Tully said. “Writers will leave feeling inspired. These success stories are the fairy dust for experiencing the workshop’s magic.”

Not Exactly Fast Food

I am out to lunch. This is especially true when I make lunch.

That’s because, in my incapable hands, organizing the second meal of the day takes so long that I am surprised I haven’t starved to death by now.
