University of Dayton School of Law Partners with The University of the West Indies-Cave Hill Campus to Launch Double LL.M. Degree Programs

The University of Dayton School of Law has proudly announced a groundbreaking partnership with The University of the West Indies-Cave Hill Campus (UWI) to offer two Double LL.M. Degree Programs. These innovative programs allow students to earn an LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law or Intellectual Property Law from UWI with an LL.M. in American and Transnational Law from the University of Dayton—broadening career prospects for students and deepening cross-border legal education.

A Global Approach to Legal Education

This new partnership builds on Dayton Law’s ongoing mission to globalize legal education. The Double LL.M. Programs will provide students with an accelerated path to earning two advanced degrees and offer guaranteed partial tuition scholarships. These scholarships underscore the commitment of both institutions to making global legal education more accessible.

“The collaboration with UWI reflects our continued effort to create meaningful international partnerships, offering students diverse educational experiences that enhance their understanding of law in a global context,” said Margaret Ioannides, Assistant Dean for Online LL.M. Programs at the University of Dayton School of Law. “The accelerated timeline for earning two degrees helps our students gain a competitive edge in the job market while minimizing costs.”

Expanding Dayton’s Global Network

This agreement is the latest example of Dayton Law’s broad international network. The school has established partnerships with 12 law schools across the globe, reinforcing the university’s reputation as a leader in global online legal education. Notable partnerships include institutions such as Masaryk University in the Czech Republic and the University of Bucharest, with recent faculty exchanges highlighting the robust collaboration among these schools. Professor Jeff Schmitt's visits to these partner universities have also laid the groundwork for further cooperation in legal scholarship and teaching.

Enriching Online Legal Education

The Online LL.M. Program at the University of Dayton, which has become a hallmark of the law school’s commitment to innovation, serves as the backbone for these global partnerships. Designed to provide flexibility for students worldwide, the program allows practicing lawyers and international students to gain expertise in American and transnational law while also establishing a potential pathway to U.S. bar eligibility. The program has earned a strong reputation for its Law in the Americas series, offering deep insights into legal challenges and opportunities within the Western Hemisphere, and the Law & Tech webinar series, a collaboration with global law and technology experts.

Through partnerships like the one with UWI, the University of Dayton is expanding its reach in the legal education landscape and creating pathways for students to become influential legal professionals, licensed in multiple jurisdictions, and practicing with a global perspective.
