Pi Sigma Epsilon Brings Joy and Laughter to Dayton Children at UD’s Christmas on Campus

PSE Lights Up UD’s Christmas Celebration

The University of Dayton’s beloved Christmas on Campus event lit up the night on Friday, December 6, marking its 61st year. Over 1,000 Dayton Public School students paired with UD undergraduates to experience the magic of the season, from live Nativity scenes and crafts to festive treats and activities hosted by student organizations. This year’s theme, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas on Campus,” captured the warmth and joy of the evening.

Among the many student organizations that contributed to the celebration, Pi Sigma Epsilon (PSE) brought a standout activity that resonated with children and families alike. PSE, a co-ed professional fraternity focusing on sales, marketing, and management, has a rich history of fostering leadership and professional development. This year, the Eta Delta chapter at UD embraced the spirit of the season by hosting Musical Chairs—an activity that blended fun, inclusivity, and a touch of friendly competition.

According to Machaela “Mac” Staggs, a Marketing major and PSE’s Service Chair, Musical Chairs has become a cherished tradition for the fraternity.

“We love the effect it has on the kids,” Staggs shared. “It allows them to have fun without worrying about anything else! We give out candy prizes so everyone has an incentive to play.”

The activity, which has been a PSE favorite for several years, creates an environment where kids of all genders and ages can participate and feel special. The tradition is now so well-loved that children look forward to it year after year, with one child enthusiastically telling their UD student escort, “I’ve been practicing all year for this!”

The event was filled with memorable moments that highlighted the joy and generosity of the season. One particularly touching instance was a young girl’s selflessness as she ensured her younger family members found seats before considering herself, a gesture that Machaela “Mac” Staggs described as a beautiful display of kindness in a child. The laughter and smiles of children filled the halls of Miriam Hall, creating a heartwarming atmosphere that left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Reflecting on the experience, Staggs shared how rewarding it was to see every child leave with a smile and a small token from PSE, noting, “Giving back is so much more rewarding than a wrapped gift.”

The experience reinforced the value of appreciating life’s small joys and the profound impact of giving back. For PSE members, the event was more than just an activity; it was a chance to reconnect with the magic of the holiday season through the eyes of the children they served.

Staggs emphasized the fraternity’s commitment to service, stating, “We’re excited to build on this activity for future events. Our service initiatives are growing, and we can’t wait to give back even more to the Dayton community.”  Their dedication to fostering joy and connection ensures that this cherished tradition will continue to bring smiles and laughter to Dayton’s children for years to come.

As the night ended and the last notes of music faded away, one thing was clear: Pi Sigma Epsilon’s Musical Chairs wasn’t just a game—it was a gift, wrapped in laughter and love, that captured the true spirit of Christmas.
