The Class of ’74 attended UD during tumultuous times. The Vietnam War, Watergate and the Arab Oil Embargo were just a few of the national headlines during their time as Flyer undergraduates.

In November 2023, we gathered for the 2023 Social Practice of Human Rights, co-convening with the International Conference on the Right to Development, focused on the theme – “Decolonization and Development for Africa and People of African Descent.” This SPHR23 blog series captures the discussions and shares the learning that occurred during the conference around the themes of (1) the right to development; (2) building social movements; (3) just energy transitions; and (4) identity and belonging — as applied to Africa and the people of African descent. 

When I swung by the "Mary in Catholic Education" exhibit in the Marian Library Gallery this week, I immediately spied a busy chalkboard, reminiscent of my childhood days at St. Joseph’s School in Buffalo.

Denny Gerdeman ’62 and his wife, Jane, have been season ticketholders for six decades and manage to make it to every men’s basketball home game even though they now live 100 miles from the University of Dayton Arena. You might say UD is their true north.

A team of UD engineering seniors took home second place at the inaugural Quality of Life Plus National Design Competition. The UD team designed a lower-limb socket for a prosthetic that mitigates heat and moisture and improves the quality of life for injured veterans and first responders.
