The College of Arts and Sciences has a variety of initiatives and special programs — from celebrating beloved Daytonians to providing experiential learning opportunities to promoting the arts.



Opportunities to Learn Beyond the Classroom

Celebration of the Arts

The Celebration of the Arts is held each spring and celebrates the artistic accomplishments of students from across the University.

Dayton2DC

Open to all majors, Dayton2DC is an annual opportunity for University of Dayton students to engage with professionals, network with UD alumni and gain practical advice about starting and navigating a career in D.C.

Dean's Summer Fellowship Program

The Dean’s Summer Fellowship program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students in the University of Dayton College of Arts and Sciences to conduct research during the summer in any academic discipline under the guidance of a full-time CAS faculty mentor.

Ethics and Leadership Initiative

The Ethics and Leadership Initiative strives to provide every student with a distinctive, integrated experience that fosters servant-leadership.

Health Engagement Fellows

The Health Engagement Fellows Program is a student program through the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community. The student Health Engagement Fellows work with the Fitz Center for three years through mini courses, connected curriculum, two years of paid internships, community engagement projects, capstone projects and research opportunities.

First-year and UD Sinclair Academy students from all majors are welcome to apply if interested in a health related career (medicine, public health, health policy, medical humanities, etc.).

Inside-Out Program

The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program challenges crime, justice and social stereotypes by facilitating meaningful conversations between individuals inside and outside of correctional facilities.

Mock Trial

Mock Trial is a competition in which undergraduate students present a jury trial before practicing attorneys and judges. Mock Trial requires not only superior presentation skills, but also a dedicated work ethic and a hungry competitive edge.

Pre-Health Opportunities

The Pre-Health Resource Center (PHRC) provides an array of services and experiential learning to students of any major who are interested in applying to medical, dental or other health professional schools after graduation.

River Stewards

The River Stewards program is the flagship program of the Rivers Institute, administered by the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community. The interdisciplinary program focused on leadership development and civic engagement is based on the model of learn, lead and serve.

Statehouse Civic Scholars

Statehouse Civic Scholars is a summer residential internship opportunity in highly desirable offices in state government located in Columbus, Ohio.

Sustainability Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

The Hanley Sustainability Institute Sustainability Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program allows University of Dayton undergraduate students to explore the field of sustainability while contributing to dynamic projects/programs on our campus and in our local community.
