Support the Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop

In 2004, University of Dayton alumnus Ralph Hamberg and his wife, Cindy, gave a $100,000 gift to start a workshop endowment fund in memory of her cousin, Brother Tom Price, S.M. This University of Dayton English professor first told Erma "three little words" of encouragement, "You can write!"

The Hamberg family, the Bombeck family, workshop faculty members, volunteers, writers and other supporters continue to contribute to the endowment fund, which allows the University of Dayton to keep the workshop affordable for writers.

Bring Laughter to the World

The Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop collaborated with the late DC Stanfa's family to help writers with financial need attend our popular biennial workshop.

The DC Stanfa Memorial Writers' Award honors DC, a writer, humorist, and avid supporter and long-time attendee. With a major gift commitment from her husband, Tom Schonecker, and daughter, Cori Hedrick, and generous support from family, friends and the Erma community, the fund will provide financial support for writers, especially underrepresented ones.

DC Stanfa Memorial Writers' Award At least two awards, which covered the registration fee, travel expenses and hotel stay, were available for the latest Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop.
