Marian Studies

The University of Dayton's Marianist heritage and the world-renowned Marian Library make UD a wonderful place to encounter and study the theology of Mary.

In addition to an undergraduate minor that combines the study of Mary with the study of the Marianist Community and its charisms, we offer graduate and doctoral level certificates.

  • Graduate Certificate: This 12-hour certificate can be taken as a stand-alone series of courses or as part of either of our M.A. degrees. Students tailor their own program with a selection of four three-credit courses, and they have access to the world-class Marian library.
  • Doctoral Certificate: Students who are admitted to the doctoral program may elect to focus their studies in Mariology. They'll write Marian-focused seminar papers, write qualifying exam questions focused on Mariology, and make at least one presentation on their Marian research at the University's Stander Symposium or Marian Forum.

For more information about these programs, including specific course options, contact Amy Doorley.
