Learning Beyond the Classroom

In addition to mini-courses to gain clinical experience, premedicine and predentistry students have a variety of opportunities to gain real-world experience and apply knowledge gained in the classroom. You can learn more about experiential learning opportunities — including shadowing, healthcare service, vocational discernment and biomedical research — as well as clubs and organizations, in the Pre-Health Resource Center.

Students from all majors can gain valuable clinical experience by participating in mini-courses sponsored by Premedical Programs. A central component of the mini-courses is on-site volunteer experience within a community partner organization.

One of these mini-courses gives students the opportunity to participate in HELP, an innovative model program designed to improve the hospital experience of older patients. Students must be registered for the premed mini-course MED 220, complete the training program and commit to a minimum of sixty volunteer hours throughout the semester.
