Learning Beyond the Classroom

In the Department of Chemistry, learning is not limited to the classroom. Your academic study is enriched by a wealth of opportunities. Take advantage of them.

American Chemical Society Student Affiliate Group

The American Chemical Society Student Affiliate Group provides students the opportunity to socialize with other students in their field and learn more about various programs at the University. The ACS sponsors an annual cookout in the student neighborhood to kick off the new academic year each fall and also organizes "Meet the Profs" gatherings which offers students a chance to socialize with professors and enjoy some snacks on a Friday afternoon.

The Student ACS invites speakers from industry and regional graduate programs (usually UD alums) to share their knowledge with us. Finally, ACS reaches out to the Dayton community in a variety of ways, including judging local science fairs and participating in UD's Christmas on Campus festivities.

If you have any questions about the Student ACS Group at UD, please contact the chemistry department main office in Science Center, room 178, for more information.

Additional Opportunities

Stander Symposium

Since 1990, the University of Dayton has sponsored the annual Brother Joseph W. Stander Symposium to recognize, showcase and celebrate mentored academic and artistic accomplishments in undergraduate and graduate education.

Dean's Summer Fellowships

The Dean’s Summer Fellowship program provides an opportunity for undergraduate students in the University of Dayton College of Arts and Sciences to conduct research during the summer in any academic discipline under the guidance of a full-time College faculty mentor.
