At each Commencement Ceremony held at the University of Dayton Arena, we celebrate our students' accomplishments and their plans for the future! We are excited to have them join more than 131,000 living alumni worldwide who are proud to call themselves Flyers. Congratulations to our graduates!

Ceremony Resources

Accessibility

  • Guests with disabilities will find a passenger drop-off lane near Gate B, accessible parking (Lots A and C), restrooms, concessions, water fountains and reserved seating areas.
  • Please let an UD Arena staff member or graduation volunteer know of any additional needs.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be interpreting during the ceremony.
  • Live captioning will be available.

Ceremony Location and Details

  • Graduation will be held at UD Arena (1801 S. Edwin C. Moses Blvd., Dayton, OH 45417).
  • Doors will open for guests approximately 1 hour before the ceremony. It is best to arrive early to avoid the most traffic. The east and west doors of the arena will not be available for entry. 
  • Tickets are not required.
  • The ceremony will last approximately 2 to 3 hours. The specific length of the ceremony varies depending on the number of students graduating. 

Graduation Gifts

For alumni merchandise and a great selection of graduation gifts, visit the UD Bookstore.

Families and friends may also order a University of Dayton diploma frame, college jewelry and other graduation products.

Show your Flyer pride by pre-ordering graduation gifts. If you order early, these will be available on the day of the commencement ceremony at UD Arena for you to give to your student. 

Graduation Regalia

The University of Dayton Bookstore hosts a Grad Fair each semester for all graduating students.

This event is a fun and exciting time for students to pick up their cap and gown and speak with representatives from Flyer Student Services to verify the details of their degree and diploma. Valuable information from Career Services and our Alumni Association will also be available. Graduating students can find details about about the Grad Fair in Porches.

Students will not need to pay for their cap and gown at the Grad Fair; all costs are included as part of tuition. Students should bring their FlyerCard or other photo ID for pickup. If students need someone else to get their regalia, they must contact graduation@udayton.edu from their UD email.

Parking and Drop-offs

Please plan to arrive early and expect slow-moving traffic to and from campus and to and from UD Arena. It may be beneficial to choose an alternative route.

  • Parking lots will be very crowded; please try to carpool.
  • Drop-offs will be permitted at Gate B.
  • ADA-accessible parking spots will be available in Lots A and C on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • As parking lots begin to fill to capacity, entrance gates will be closed.
  • Please follow the parking attendants' directions.

Exit Route From UD Arena to I-75

  • Exit from Gates A, B, C or D, turning right.

Exit Routes From UD Arena to Campus

  • Via Stewart St. bridge: Exit from Gates A, B, C or D, turning left. Turn right at Stewart St. bridge and continue to Brown St. (near campus).
  • Alternate route, via Stewart St. bridge: Exit from Gates A, B, C or D, turning left. Turn right at S. Patterson Blvd., then left at River Park Dr. (near Marriott at the University of Dayton). Turn right at Main St., then left at Caldwell St. (runs along the side of Fitz Hall).
  • Alternate route, via I-75: Exit from Gates A, B, C or D, turning right. Follow signs for I-75 North. Take exit 52 for US 35 East, then exit at State Route 48/Main St/Jefferson. Turn left at S. Jefferson, which turns into Warren St. (and becomes Brown St. by campus).
  • Alternate route, via Washington St.: Exit from Gates A, B, C or D, turning left. Continue on Edwin C. Moses Blvd., past the Stewart St. bridge, and turn right at Washington St. Turn right at Warren St. (which becomes Brown St. by campus).

Photography

Our partner company, GradImages, will send a link to a professional photograph of each student at graduation to their UD email approximately one week after the commencement ceremony.

Before graduation begins, you may want to decide on where to meet afterwards to take more pictures with family and friends. While your student is walking in front of the stage to receive their diploma cover, you will have the opportunity to take their picture from your seat while their image is projected on the video boards. 

For the safety of everyone, guests are not permitted to be in the aisle to take photos or videos of their graduates during the ceremony.
