The University of Dayton Office of Technology and Entrepreneurial Partnerships is responsible for all aspects of Intellectual Property management for the University.
We can help industry and entrepreneurs navigate University requirements as well as issues with licensing technology, entrepreneurship, and new venture development.
Our office also serves as the receipt point for UD invention disclosures. We help UD inventors commercialize their inventions and discoveries.
We also oversee Propel Dayton, a program designed to support UD employees interested in starting a business. Propel Dayton's goal is to streamline the business development process and help future business owners be in the best possible position to access the regional and national resources available to start-up companies.
Resources for Industry
The licensing process at the University of Dayton is streamlined one — you'll only need to negotiate with the Director of Technology Partnerships, and most negotiations can be done in a single day. The University will only ask for commercially reasonable terms, so you know you will get a fair, and industry standard deal.
The process at UD is simple. Whether you come from a relationship with a UD researcher, are interested in posted technology, or just wish to see the technologies at UD, the starting point is the same.
Please contact the Office of Technology and Entrepreneurial Partnerships at 937-229-3472 to facilitate a discussion. If you wish to engage in Sponsored Research, please contact the Office of Academic Research at 937-229-2919.
Industry partners have two options for access to intellectual property:
- Obtain rights through a research agreement.
- Negotiate with UD for a license to existing intellectual property. Typically, a license will include 6% royalty on sales plus patent expenses. However, intellectual property with significant commercial potential could result in changes to the typical number.
Resources for Entrepreneurs
The University of Dayton wishes to provide clarity to any investors or entrepreneurs that would like to engage, or invest in UD intellectual property. Initial engagement is usually through a UD inventor, or through contact with the Office of Technology and Entrepreneurial Partnerships about a particular technology. Either way, the Office of Technology and Entrepreneurial Partnerships will be your guide in making connections with UD researchers, navigating UD requirements, and license agreements for UD technology.
If you have questions about a particular technology, or would like to see technologies of a certain technical area, please contact the Director of Technology and Entrepreneurial Partnerships. UD employees who wish to launch a start-up company based on UD technology should visit the Office of Academic Research page on Porches.
