US News & World Report named the University of Dayton among the top national universities, best values and best for undergraduate teaching in its 2027 rankings.
“These rankings recognize what our students experience every day,” said Provost Darlene Weaver. “They learn from faculty who care about their growth, are surrounded by people who want them to succeed, and graduate prepared for meaningful lives and careers.”
UD rose more than 20 places to tie for No. 121 among national universities. It ranked 42 for best value, and tied for 61 for undergraduate teaching and 64 among private schools.
The University also was named among the best colleges for veterans, recognizing its support for students who have served in the military. Business, computer sciences and psychology were recognized as well.
The rankings are based in part on UD’s strong student outcomes. Its 81% six-year graduation rate is well above the 68% national average. Students just set a new record four-year graduation rate of 72%. And, 97% of recent grads surveyed reported they’ve been successful in their careers, graduate school or service within six months of graduation. Their average starting salary was more than $61,000.
UD also continues to invest in student support. This year, the University launched an experiential learning guarantee, ensuring every undergraduate participates in hands-on learning through opportunities such as internships, co-ops, research, study abroad and service. Undergraduates also have a "flight crew" — a holistic advisor, plus people such as faculty, staff or alumni mentors — to help them explore their vocation, get involved on campus and find support for their academic, health and well-being and spiritual lives.
The support and hands-on learning came together for Elayna Brdecka ‘26 in Flyer Pitch, where she developed and presented her business idea.
“I’m proud to be part of a university with mentors, professors and peers who push me to grow and believe in what I’m capable of,” said Brdecka , who majored in management and minored in philosophy.
