One fateful Saturday night my junior year, I was lying in my room when I was joined by the smiling faces of two friends.
DD’s, the red food truck that parks itself in the heart of the south student neighborhood, had supplied them with late-night munchies — which they happily indulged in on the floor of my bedroom while catching me up on what I had missed after I left Tim’s earlier that night.
The chatter from my room drew in another roommate, and then another friend arrived. Soon, my room was housing seven people who were not remotely interested in ending the night.
Suddenly, the peppered conversations were halted when a projectile flew into my ceiling fan and redirected into the wall with a THUD.
One of us had wadded up the tinfoil wrapping of a DD’s hotdog and decided to launch it into the blades for fun.
And it was funny. The room erupted in laughter, and soon people were taking turns throwing the tinfoil ball upward into the fan and sending the room ducking as it found its target at random.
But it wasn’t the only harmless, empty tinfoil ball flying into the fan — it was a loaded, wrapped cheeseburger called the Nick Weston.
The savory burger topped with pulled pork and a fried egg — supposedly named after the UD student who created the order — splattered on impact, painting my bedroom walls with mustard, ketchup and immediate regret.

The room fell silent as our heads turned to find the culprit, who had long fled the scene.
Needless to say, we played a new game: cleaning up Cat’s room.
