Seekers
Patrick J. Kelly ’69
Novel writing became a second career for Patrick J. Kelly ’69 upon his retirement from a career in applied physics and high-tech business. His debut historical fiction novel, Seekers, is based on the real lives of his grandparents, John Kelly and Margaret Marrey, and their Irish origins in a story of rebellion, survival and perseverance of Irish culture. He balances the broader sociopolitical conflicts of 1880s Ireland with intimate scenes as the couple explores the hardship and struggle of their first year as husband and wife.
The Not So Average Life of Average Jane
Marissa Malson ’11
Marissa Malson ’11 was feeling less than fulfilled with her career in digital marketing, but that all changed with one yoga class. It was during a class that she envisioned what she describes as a “gift from the Holy Spirit” — the start of her first novel. The Not So Average Life of Average Jane follows the story of a private investigator who finds success in her ability to not stand out. Malson said attending UD’s 2024 Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop gave her the tools and inspiration to finish her book and start her own publishing company.
The Order series
Donald Cimmino ’75
Donald Cimmino ’75 had a passion for sci-fi since his days at UD but finally found the time to get his ideas down on paper after retiring. In 2024, he published the three-part sci-fi saga he had always wanted to write. The series begins with The Order, following Ruther, an opportunist eager to escape his galaxy. His peaceful existence is upended by an unimaginable crime — one galaxy’s government has committed a devastating act against another. Next in the series is The Elements, followed by The Newest Galaxy.
