7 stunning spots for campus photo ops at the University of Dayton.

You noticed it the first moment you stepped foot on campus — it’s beautiful here. Each time you return home as an alumnus, your heart gets fuller and your camera roll gets a little longer. Whether you’re capturing selfies or beautiful vistas, we invite you to look through a different lens at these seven sensational spots that will freshen up your Flyer photo album.

UD's front entrance sign1 – Entrance sign

This is a classic, from your first visit to campus to your Golden Flyers reunion. Located at the front entrance at Stewart and Brown streets, this bronzed sign welcomes visitors and students alike. Perfectly placed in front of the red brick arch and colorful student homes, this spot encapsulates the stately university feel you are looking for. If you pass by in late spring, you’ll be sure to see students donning their caps and gowns in front of it.

Three students sit on grass 2 – Stuart Hill

Incline walking never felt so good! It’s easy to be jealous of the Stuart Complex residents — they arguably have the best view on campus. The entire Dayton skyline is visible, evoking an effervescent “king of the world” feeling. Bring a few friends and stage a group shot, or simply capture the scenery in an outdoor composition. We recommend taking your photo at sunset (trust us).

Rudy Flyer on the roof3 – Kennedy Union green roof

Looking to “elevate” your Instagram photos? Head up to the outdoor patio located on the second floor of Kennedy Union. Here is where you’ll find a green roof installation that aids in managing stormwater runoff and enhancing the University’s commitment to sustainability. From this vantage point in the heart of campus, you’ll get an eagle-eye view of UD’s largest greenspace and largest residence hall, making it ideal for people-watching or picture-taking.

People sit on ground listening to music4 – ArtStreet amphitheater

If you’re going for a more aesthetically pleasing approach to your photo, we suggest venturing to the amphitheater located in the heart of ArtStreet near Kiefaber Street and Lawnview Avenue (pictured above). Used for University events and performances, this outdoor venue is cemented in the heart of the south student neighborhood. At night, strings of lights glow on stage, creating a warm ambiance perfect for illuminating just the right shots.

Kennedy Union fountain sprays water5 – Kennedy Union fountain

Campus heat wave got you down? Mosey over to Central Mall and take a splash in the Kennedy Union fountain. Sixteen water geysers and the words of UD’s motto, “Pro Deo et Patria” (“For God and Country”), wrap in a circle around a bubbly spray. The fountain provides an excellent opportunity to capture a few candids or just cool down after a long day.

Iron art piece with sun behind it6 – Serenity Pines

This reflective space is nestled in a grotto of green beside Marycrest and lives up to its name. The stone architecture contrasts with the natural flora, making for a peaceful and picturesque landscape. After snapping a shot, take in the sounds of the trickling fountain and pay respect to the students, faculty and staff whose names are etched on the sculpture’s metal memorial leaves.

Chapel from an aerial view7 – Chapel of the Immaculate Conception

If you haven’t taken a photo in front of the chapel, did you really go to UD? This iconic 1869 building is a Flyer photo staple. After all, what says UD more than the chapel blue dome against a sky blue vista that welcomes you back to campus every time? Rain, shine or snow, the chapel looks good from all angles. If you’re visiting around the first week of May, soon-to-be graduates will be lined up with caps, gowns and about-to-be-shaken champagne bottles, so take a number (and maybe an umbrella).
