Campus Hazing Transparency Report

Hazing, in all of its forms, is incongruent with the University of Dayton's Catholic and Marianist identity and values. In the interest of fostering a healthy and safe community, the University of Dayton has created the Campus Hazing Transparency Report. This report continues to ensure compliance with both Collin's Law, Ohio's Anti-Hazing Act, and federal anti-hazing legislation, the Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA).

Both Collin's Law and SCHA require each institution of higher education to publish a report of all hazing violations on a publicly accessible website.

This report is updated twice per year, on January 1 and August 1, and details all findings of responsibility for hazing by student organizations over the last five years.

2025 - 2026

Phi Alpha Delta

General description of violation, any investigation, and findings by the institution: Phi Alpha Delta hosted an unregistered event with alcohol at various locations where mass consumption of alcohol was an expectation of participants, particularly new members. Two students were transported to the hospital for overconsumption of alcohol from the event.

General description of violation, any investigation, and findings by the institution: After Alpha Phi’s Bid Day event, members and new members continued socializing at residences where alcohol was present and available. Bid Day Buddies brought or accompanied new members to these gatherings where alcohol was consumed. One student required hospitalization due to overconsumption.

General description of violation, any investigation, and findings by the institution: Phi Sigma Kappa utilized the potential new member interview process to ask questions of a sexual and derogatory nature about members. Additionally, while new members were not drinking, some members were intoxicated at the interviews.

  - Be approved by Phi Sigma Kappa National Headquarters.
  - Be alcohol-free events
  - Be conducted with at least one advisor present; the advisor must have completed the Hazing Prevention 101 Training required by the University of Dayton.
  - Be conducted on University property (ideally Kennedy Union or an academic building) and registered on 1850.
  - Consist of interview questions that have been approved by a Chapter Advisor and FSL staff and are pertinent to membership in the chapter, as well as potential new member character discovery.
- Anti-Hazing Training with HQ staff for the remainder of the probation.

General description of violation, any investigation and findings by institution:
The University received a report from a community member who reported new members were being required to drink large amounts of alcohol, dress in uniform clothing and purchase food for active members. An investigation occurred and the organization was found responsible for hazing, alcohol and compliance.

Penalties imposed on subject of the report: Organizational suspension with stipulations for a return after 2030.

2023 - 2024

Delta Sigma Pi (responsible for hazing)

General description of violation, any investigation and findings by institution:
The University received a report from a community member who reported only new members were being required to dress in business attire on a certain day and time but other members were not required. An investigation occurred and the organization was found responsible for hazing.

Beta Theta Pi Fraternity (responsible for hazing)

General description of violation, any investigation and findings by institution:
The University received a report from a community member who reported new members were provided alcohol and blindfolded. An investigation occurred and the organization was found responsible for hazing, alcohol violations and non-compliance.

Penalties imposed on subject of the report: Organization suspension, forfeiture of privileges, loss of housing, and a national intervention plan

Club Rugby Team (responsible for hazing)

A student staff member reported that new members of the Team were required to launder team uniforms. An investigation was conducted.

The University works to protect the identities of those individuals who report hazing and any retaliatory behavior against an individual who reports will be subject to the University's Code of Conduct.

Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In accordance with the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act, the University provides annual statistics on hazing incidents within our Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASR). While both this Campus Hazing Transparency Report (CHTR) and the ASR serve to inform the public, they fulfill different legal purposes: the CHTR functions as a detailed, biannual log of specific student organizations found responsible for hazing violations, whereas the ASR is a broad annual census of all reported incidents that meet the federal hazing definition, regardless of the final disciplinary outcome, that occurred within defined campus geography. Together, these reports offer a comprehensive view of campus safety, allowing students and families to make informed decisions about organizational involvement.
