Our Story
Established in 1999 with a $1 million grant from the University of Dayton’s Endowment, the Davis Center for Portfolio Management is the home of the Flyer Investments Fund. Founded by alumnus Dick Davis and his wife Sue, alongside key university leaders, the Davis Center's Flyer Investments Fund has seen tremendous growth because of diligent investing. By 2010, the Fund had surged to $11.3 million, then $24.4 million by 2017. Today, the fund boasts an impressive $74 million in assets.
Investment Objective, Philosophy and Process
The Flyer Investments Fund employs a Growth at a Reasonable Price (GARP) philosophy. We invest in companies with a sustainable competitive advantage that are trading below our estimated intrinsic value. Each purchase must meet our 12% internal hurdle rate, derived from our Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model.
Our long-term investment horizon (3-5 years) aligns with the objectives of our clients, the University Endowment and The Dayton Foundation. Crucially, every new investment adheres to the University's Catholic and Marianist values, like sustainability and social concerns.
Collaborate for Good: Real-World Impact Through Investment
Get unparalleled, real-world investment experience and make a tangible difference. The Davis Center for Portfolio Management boasts a unique, nationally recognized partnership with The Dayton Foundation, one of the leading community foundations in the U.S.
Our undergraduate students actively manage a $4.5 million asset allocation portfolio for the Dayton Foundation. Beyond the impressive returns, our students direct 85% of their management fees to charities they research and select, directly impacting the Dayton community and beyond. This experience isn't just about mastering finance; it's about becoming a purpose-driven leader who leverages financial expertise for the common good.
