Our Areas

Compliance

The University is committed to ethical conduct and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

The University operates in an increasingly complex regulatory environment, which requires us to sharpen our focus on accountability and adherence with our legal and ethical responsibilities. Outside regulators and funding sources increasingly require that the University have an imbedded system in place to ensure that the University understands its requirements and works to meet them.

The Department of Compliance demonstrates the University's commitment to meeting our legal and regulatory responsibilities, and to fostering a culture that promotes ethical conduct. Compliance works with leaders throughout the University to identify and fulfill legal and policy responsibilities.

Environmental Health and Safety

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety supports the University’s core mission by guarding the safety of, and reduce risk to, the University community. We actively implement prevention education, respond to ongoing needs and thoroughly monitor conditions that might interfere with the health and well-being of the campus community. We emphasize that health and safety, loss prevention and environmental protection must be foremost on the minds of all those who call on or serve the University. .

Enterprise Risk Management

The Department of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) strengthens the University's ability to achieve its mission, vision and strategic goals. ERM provides a structured and consistent approach to identifying, assessing and responding to risks and opportunities across the institution.

ERM fosters a University-wide culture of risk and opportunity awareness, encouraging early and proactive identification and communication of potential issues. By evaluating risks in an aggregated manner and sharing insights with University leaders, the Executive Risk Council and the Board of Trustees, the ERM program helps guide strategic decisions and supports the effective prioritization of resources.

Internal Audit

The University of Dayton's internal audit department is an independent business partner that examines and evaluates the activities of the University.

The Internal Audit Department assists the University in accomplishing its mission by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating its processes and offering recommendations to improve internal controls to manage risk.

Internal Audit is established by the University's Board of Trustees. Internal Audit's responsibilities are defined by the Internal Audit Charter as approved by the Audit and Risk Committee of the Board of Trustees. Independence is essential to the effectiveness of the Internal Audit department; therefore, the Assistant Vice President of Internal Audit, Risk and Advisory Services reports functionally to the Audit Committee and administratively to the Vice President of Safety, Audit, Risk and Compliance. Internal Audit's role will ensure strong stewardship as well as promote and protect the integrity of the University.

Risk Management and Insurance

The Department of Risk Management and Insurance supports the University by promoting a risk-aware culture. Using proactive consultation, risk assessment and the selection of optimal risk finance options, we have developed a comprehensive program that takes a systematic strategic approach to minimizing exposure to risk.

Through the risk assessment process, we identify and evaluate risk to the University and develop efficient and financially responsible ways to manage those risks. Part of that strategy includes purchasing of insurance and self-insurance to address a variety of exposures as well as identify alternative methods to managing risks.

Certificate of Insurance

The University requires third parties to provide certificates of insurance evidencing insurance coverage.

Drones

Please review the Drone/Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) policy for the requirements to operate a drone on University property, University controlled property, or for University-affiliated research or events held elsewhere.

Reporting a Claim or Concern

If you have been injured (non-work related), had a near-miss injury, or have observed an unsafe condition on campus, please complete the Incident and Near-Miss Reporting Form.
