At UD, you'll have many opportunities to apply what you learn in the classroom, including a variety of competitions and events throughout the year.
Industry-Specific Competitions
Our business students regularly showcase their industry-specific skills and compete nationally in diverse areas like digital marketing, supply chain management, consulting, and sales. With expert faculty mentorship and countless hours of practice, our teams are ready to excel.
College Fed Challenge
Teams of undergraduate students are challenged to analyze economic and financial conditions and formulate a monetary policy recommendation, modeling the Federal Open Market Committee. The 2024 team successfully advanced to the semi-finals.
Econ Games
This annual data analytics and research competition is designed to help undergraduate students solve real-world problems. Teams analyze real-life data for a local company and provide a solution to the company's question.
By advancing your skills beyond the classroom, you'll be developing technical and soft skills needed for economic and business analysis careers.
Flyer Pitch Competition
Undergraduate students have an opportunity to compete against real-world entrepreneurs and develop their business ideas with expert support and mentorship. Our annual Flyer Pitch Competition awards more than $150,000 in cash prizes and has launched more than 80 new ventures.
SBA Service Day
Serving together is one of the most powerful ways to build community. Each year, the School of Business Administration partners with Habitat for Humanity for Greater Dayton for the SBA Service Day where all first-year business students help build homes for local Dayton families. Guided by Habitat staff, faculty and upperlevel student mentors, this hands-on experience connects new students to each other and to a shared sense of purpose.
Visiting Entrepreneur
Visiting entrepreneur Larry Connor, CEO of The Connor Group, is a successful Dayton entrepreneur that has built a $2 billion dollar national company headquartered about 15 minutes south of UD's Main Campus. Connor visits UD annually to share his experiences with entrepreneurship students and talk about about what it takes to be successful in today's business environment.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program gives undergraduate business students — especially accounting majors — the opportunity to become IRS‑certified tax preparers and volunteer at city-run sites in Dayton, where they provide free federal and state tax filing services to low‑income, elderly and qualifying residents. Students gain practical experience and contribute to processing over $4 million in tax refunds that benefit the local community annually.
