Why did you decide to earn a J.D.?
I wanted a career that would allow me to make a meaningful impact, help people navigate difficult situations, and use my voice to advocate for others. Earning a J.D. offered the opportunity to combine critical thinking, public service, and lifelong learning in a way that appealed to me.
What was your experience like at UDSL?
UDSL challenged me to grow both personally and professionally. As a student in the accelerated Two-Year J.D. program who began law school during the height of the pandemic, I learned how to manage a rigorous workload while developing the practical skills necessary to succeed as an attorney. UDSL helped prepare me to enter practice with confidence.
How has the J.D. helped with your career and what are you doing now?
My J.D. has opened doors to opportunities I never imagined when I started law school. I practice civil litigation, representing clients in personal injury and civil rights matters in both state and federal court. Beyond my practice, I serve on the Board of Governors of the Illinois State Bar Association and as an American Bar Association Young Lawyer Delegate. I also coach mock trial at my former high school and mentor law students and young lawyers, which allows me to give back to the next generation of advocates.
What advice would you give a future lawyer?
Be willing to say yes to new opportunities, even when they feel intimidating. Some of the most valuable experiences in my career have come from stepping outside my comfort zone. Build genuine relationships and remember that success in the legal profession is not just about what you know; it is also about your commitment to serving others. Be curious, stay humble, and never stop learning.
