Dayton Law Tops in Ohio for First-time Bar Passage
The University of Dayton School of Law was number one in Ohio in first-time taker bar passage on the February 2025 bar exam with all of its initial takers passing.
The number of bar takers in February is much smaller than in July, but these numbers build on the success UDSL saw on the July 2024 bar exam where its graduates tied for second in Ohio in first-time taker bar passage rate. Dayton Law first-time takers also had a 94% passage rate on July 2024 bar exams outside Ohio. In all, Dayton ranked in the top third of law schools in first-time bar passage rate for 2024 according to numbers compiled by Paul Caron’s TaxProf Blog.
“These numbers are a credit to our students who put in the work of studying for the bar exam and to our faculty and staff, especially our excellent bar passage team led by director Tommy Sangchompuphen and assistant director Katie Armstrong, who have helped students from their first days of law school to prepare to pass the bar,” says UDSL interim dean Christopher Roederer. “Bar passage is crucial for our graduates to get the start to their legal careers they want, which is why we put an emphasis on it not just right before the bar exam but throughout a student’s time in law school. These results show that effort is paying off.”
The School of Law also saw all seven of its January 2025 Online Hybrid J.D. graduates pass the February bar exam. The first-time taker passage rate for the Online Hybrid J.D. program is now 91% with 41 of 45 graduates from the program passing their initial bar exam.
