Visa and Financial Documentation for Graduate Students

The University of Dayton and the United States Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement require that students who plan to enter the U.S. meet certain requirements.

A student must be admitted and provide proof of the ability to cover educational costs, living and other miscellaneous expenses for the first year.

UD requires you to submit an Affidavit of Financial Support through your Admission Account to verify this financial capability prior to admission to the University. Your application will not be reviewed without a completed Affidavit of Financial Support.

Once admitted to the University of Dayton, we will prepare an immigration document (I-20). You will then use this document to obtain a student (F-1) visa from your consulate.

Affidavit of Financial Support

The Affidavit of Financial Support will allow you to upload a bank statement and provide signatures for financial support, if needed. This form is available in your Admission Account.

Financial documents must be issued in English or be accompanied by a certified English translation.
Bank statements must be issued from a financial institution within the last six months listing the owner of the account, account number and balance.
Bank statements must includes liquid funds only.
Property documents, salary statements, retirement, investment and business accounts are not accepted.
The bank statement should list the minimum one year cost corresponding to your academic program listed under Estimated Academic Program Costs for Documentation.

If the student is not self-sponsored, the following is required:

A signature of the individual listed as the account holder(s) on the bank statement.
The sponsor's relationship to the student (mother, father, uncle, etc.).
Government or Embassy sponsorship letter if you are sponsored by your government. You may upload a letter stating ‘For Admission Purposes Only’ through th Affidavit of Financial Support.

Copy of Passport

A photocopy of the applicant's passport should be uploaded within your application.
If you currently reside in the United States, please email our office a copy of your current visa.
