The superintendent preparation certificate, one of UD's advanced programs, will provide you with the opportunity for both asynchronous and synchronous learning opportunities while you pursue excellence in values that include:

Program Overview

Certificate Information and Courses

For students who have completed the Educational Leadership M.S.E. program (or a comparable master's program) and have obtained principal licensure.

Candidates must do the following:

  • Complete 12 hours of designated educator preparation coursework (superintendent).
  • Provide evidence of three years of successful administrative experience under a standard administrative credential.

Administration License Examination Required

As of Sept. 1, 2013, the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) test series replaced the Praxis II series as the required Ohio educator licensure tests. Individuals who successfully completed a Praxis test before September 2013 may use the Praxis test results to satisfy the test requirement at the time they apply for licensure.

Note: This is an Educator Preparation Program (leading to a State of Ohio-issued license and a certificate issued by the University of Dayton).

Application and Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission to any certificate program will satisfy the following requirements based upon academic standing:

  1. University of Dayton graduate students with a minimum 3.0 GPA can apply.
  2. University of Dayton undergraduate students can apply upon attaining senior standing (90 semester hours) with a minimum 3.5 GPA.
  3. Professionals wishing to obtain the certificate only must have completed a bachelor's degree as verified by a transcript when applying to the certificate program.

Notes

  • Once admitted, University of Dayton undergraduates may apply these 12 graduate credit towards their undergraduate requirements, depending on the major. Students are strongly encouraged to discuss the matter with their advisors.
  • Students may pursue more than one certificate program, however double-counting is not allowed. Students must earn 12 unique credits for each certificate.
