The University of Dayton's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is a unique partnership with Sinclair Community College's Associate of Applied Science in Nursing program where students engage in classroom, laboratory, simulation and clinical experiences.

General Information

What is a dual enrollment program?

UD and Sinclair Community College have a cooperative program. The plan of study enables students to complete both an associate of applied science in nursing (ASN) degree and a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree.

Within this agreement between the schools, pre-licensure students will be dually enrolled in the University of Dayton BSN and Sinclair Community College ASN degree programs.

What are the admission requirements?

UD admits first-year students every fall. Applicants are competitively selected from an applicant pool directly out of high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

ACT and/or SAT scores, if desired. UD is test-optional in admission. If you have questions about submitting test scores, please review our Test Score Policy page.

Admission will be competitive and based on the following:

  • Essay
  • High School GPA and select science course grades

Can I tour Sinclair's Health Science Building?

What is the tuition rate?

Which school awards financial aid and scholarships?

A FAFSA will only need to be completed for the University of Dayton. UD will award all financial aid and scholarships.

Do UD and Sinclair need official transcripts from other universities?

Yes. For official college credit taken in high school to be reviewed for transfer, an official college transcript must be sent to both UD and Sinclair. Both institutions will perform a transcript review.

Do I have to take the HESI A2 test or the ACT?

ACT and/or SAT scores, if desired. The University of Dayton is test-optional in admission. If you have questions about submitting test scores, please review our Test Score Policy page.

Effective August 1, 2025, BSN students are required to successfully complete the HESI A2 exam with a 75% composite score to progress to Sinclair's nursing program. Students have three attempts to achieve the 75% composite score to maintain eligibility for Sinclair's nursing program.


Program-Specific Information

Am I accepted into the nursing program as a first-year student?

Yes. First-year students admitted in the UD nursing program are considered nursing majors. Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, a 70% or higher in specified nursing, science, and math courses, and a 73% or higher in the course HSS 305 (Human Anatomy).

What does the curriculum plan look like?

Do I have to attend class during the summer?

No. The program plan doesn't requires classes during the summer.

Where will I go for clinical experiences?

UD and Sinclair nursing programs utilize clinical sites within our local hospitals, including Premier Health, Kettering Health Network and Dayton Children's Hospitals that include specialty rotations in obstetrics, pediatrics and behavioral health, along with senior living communities and community health. Students must have access to a personal vehicle to travel to various locations for clinical experiences.

Transportation Options

  • The Flyer: Free bus service from the Greater Dayton RTA that provides transportation every 10 minutes from the University of Dayton to multiple downtown stops.
  • Have your own car/transportation? Students can drive to Sinclair and park for free in the student garage, which connects to Sinclair's Health Sciences building.

When do I become a licensed registered nurse (RN)?

Nursing students are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) after successfully earning both the associate's degree from Sinclair AND the bachelor's degree from UD at the end of year four.

Which school awards my degree?

You'll receive two degrees while in the nursing program:

  1. Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (ASN) degree: Awarded by Sinclair Community College after the successful completion of Sinclair Nursing courses and the Sinclair program requirements are met.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree: Awarded by the University of Dayton after successful completion of all UD courses and all Sinclair required courses and both UD and Sinclair program and all university/college requirements are met.

Sinclair-Related Information

Which school do I pay while attending Sinclair?

Nursing students are billed by UD for all courses outlined in the nursing plan of study.

Can I take classes at UD while attending Sinclair?

Yes. Nursing students take Sinclair and UD courses concurrently. See the specific program plan for details.

How will my GPA be calculated? UD's grading scale or Sinclair's grading scale?

UD courses follow UD's grading scale; Sinclair courses follow Sinclair's grading scale. (example: A grade of "C" at UD is a minimum of 73%; however, a "C" at Sinclair is a minimum of 80%.)

Sinclair courses are transcripted at UD and the grades follow over to UD and are calculated into the GPA. It is important to note that many schools of nursing have a higher grading scale than the general institution grading scale.

Can I live on UD's campus and attend UD events while attending Sinclair?

Yes. BSN students are considered full-time UD students, even during semesters when the majority of their credit hours are taken at Sinclair.

Can I play sports at UD while attending Sinclair?

Yes. BSN students are considered full-time UD students even during semesters when the bulk of their nursing courses are taken through Sinclair.

However, the demands of clinical time and the rigor of the nursing program needs to be considered. Potential nursing student-athletes should meet with the nursing program director in advance.

Do I have access to UD student services while attending Sinclair?

Yes. BSN students are considered full-time UD students, even during semesters when the bulk of their nursing courses are taken through Sinclair.
