When searching for external scholarships:

  • Start with your local and regional community — the candidate pool is smaller, which may increase your chance of receiving an award.
  • Take caution when an application requires any personal information that does not pertain to the scholarship, such as social security numbers or access to social media accounts.
  • Pay attention to the timeline for award selection — some might take up to a year or more.
  • Find niche scholarships that pertain to who you are as an individual and what your interests are.
  • Avoid applying for any scholarship that charges an application fee.

External Scholarships

College Jumpstart Scholarship

The College JumpStart Scholarship is an annual, merit-based competition — financial need is not considered — that is open to 10th-12th graders, college students and non-traditional students. The main requirement is that you are committed to going to school and can express your goals for getting a higher education.

Freeman-ASIA Scholarship

Freeman-ASIA accepts applications from U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university, with a minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA, who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Amount varies.

Gilman International Scholarship Program

Studying abroad can be a life-changing experience! The Gilman Scholarship Program provides up to $5,000 (or $8,000 including the Critical Need Language Award) for undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens and Federal Pell Grant recipients to participate in in-person or virtual international programs.

Phi Gamma Delta Courageous Leader Scholarship

The Phi Gamma Delta Courageous Leader Scholarship seeks to recognize unaffiliated men on campus who embody the fraternity values of friendship, knowledge, service, excellence and morality.

Interested students are asked to fill out an application. Applicants may also be interviewed by Phi Gamma Delta staff. Membership in Phi Gamma Delta is not required.

PTDA Foundation Scholarship

The PTDA Foundation Scholarship is designed to foster talent and build a stronger future for the power transmission and motion control (PT/MC) industry.

This program provides financial support to students who are considering or currently pursuing an education in PT/MC related fields. Up to five $3,000 scholarships will be awarded.

REACH Pathways Scholarship

REACH Pathways is a cutting-edge educational technology platform launched by Chicago Scholars and designed to bridge the opportunity gap. REACH Pathways empowers learners to develop key skills, build resumes, and connect with internships, jobs and career opportunities by leveraging AI, game-based learning and personalized career quests.

Scholarships for Future Power Engineers

The PES Scholarship Plus Initiative provides scholarships and real world experience to undergraduates who are interested in power and energy engineering careers. Our undergraduate engineering scholarships aim to accomplish this goal by attracting highly qualified engineering students to the field.

Technology First awards scholarships annually to currently enrolled undergraduate college students (sophomore or above) studying a major connected to information technology (IT).
