Policy

According to a May 1970 Archdiocesan regulation, “Priests engaged in Campus Ministry in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati have permission to assist at marriages of students, recent graduates, and faculty of their proper college provided all other requirements of church law are fulfilled.”

Consequently, only current students, alumni, and current faculty, staff, and administrators, including their immediate family members, may be married in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception is the only place where weddings are permitted on campus.  Only weddings that can be approved by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati are permitted.  The Executive Director of Campus Ministry, or their designee, will schedule the Sacrament of Matrimony.

If a priest or deacon is asked to witness a marriage at the chapel and does not have habitual delegation in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, he must obtain delegation from either the pastor or parochial vicar of Holy Angels Parish.  Typically, a UD priest is designated as a parochial vicar.  The celebration of the sacrament is to be recorded at Holy Angels Parish; additionally, the marriage file should be maintained in the archives of Holy Angels Parish.

Non-Catholic weddings in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception are permitted only with the permission of the Archbishop of Cincinnati.

Appeals to this policy should be made to the Executive Director of Campus Ministry.
