The University of Dayton has added seven accomplished leaders to its board of trustees, bringing expertise in business, Catholic and Marianist education, law, government affairs, student leadership, alumni engagement, military service and organizational leadership.
The new trustees are Timothy “Tim” Brabender ’81, Brother Edward “Ed” Brink, S.M., Bro. Francisco González, S.M., M.D., Ann Hamilton ’92, Drew Moyer ’22, retired U.S. Army lieutenant general Thomas “Tom” Seamands ’81 and Rev. John Thompson, S.M. They began their terms July 1.
“Our new trustees bring a deep commitment to the University of Dayton’s Catholic, Marianist mission and a broad range of experience that will help guide the University’s future,” said University President Eric F. Spina. “They understand the power of a UD education and the importance of preparing students to lead, serve and make a difference in the world.”
Four trustees also concluded their terms this year, including retired UD Vice President for Mission and Rector Father Jim Fitz, who had 32 years of board service. Other trustees who finished their terms were Brother Jesse O'Neill, S.M., Brother Bernie Ploeger, S.M. and Father Oscar Vasquez, S.M.
Timothy “Tim” Brabender retired in 2024 from McGohan Brabender Companies, where he served as chairman and business partner. Brabender, who has nearly 40 years of experience in the employee benefits industry, began his career in sales with Blue Cross Blue Shield after graduating from UD with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He joined Pat McGohan as a business partner in 1985, helping grow McGohan & Associates into what is known today as McGohan Brabender.
McGohan Brabender has been a corporate sponsor of the University for more than 25 years. Brabender and his wife, Susanne, are longtime supporters of UD athletics, and Brabender served on the University’s We Soar campaign cabinet.
Brother Edward “Ed” Brink, S.M. is the Director of Novices for the Marianist Province of the United States. The Novitiate Community is located on Mount Saint John in Dayton.
Brink has had a long and distinguished career in Catholic education, beginning in 1985 as a teacher at Chaminade-Julienne High School and later serving as the founding director of UD’s Lalanne program in the School of Education and Health Sciences’ Center for Catholic Education. From 2016-25, he was vice president for mission and rector at Chaminade University of Honolulu. He also has served as assistant for education for the Province, and has held board roles with all three Marianist universities — UD, Chaminade and St. Mary’s University in Texas — as well as three Marianist high schools and several Catholic education-related organizations.
Brother Francisco González, S.M. served 21 years as a UD trustee before retiring in June 2025, but returned to the board for another term. Past UD board service included participation on the academic affairs, athletics and student life committees. He also serves on the board of St. Mary’s University, on high school boards and Marianist publishing company Grupo SM in Puerto Rico.
González spent many years as director and president of Colegio San José, a Marianist high school in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He also served as assistant for education for the Marianist Province of New York and, after the national provinces combined to create the U.S. province, Gonzalez became a member of the provincial council. González also has an M.D. in child psychiatry from Johns Hopkins University.
Ann Hamilton is a senior advisor with Hicks Partners LLC and a UD School of Law graduate. Hamilton previously served in senior leadership roles at Cleveland Clinic, including chief of government relations, leading a team advocating in Ohio, Florida, Nevada and at the local and federal levels. She also was part of the Clinic leadership team that developed the Cleveland Innovation District and launched the Discovery Accelerator, the world's first quantum computer dedicated to healthcare research in partnership with IBM.
From 2010-19, Hamilton worked at The Ohio State University, where she became vice president of communications and served as a member of the president's cabinet. She also worked for former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack of Florida and served as communications director for former Ohio Gov. Bob Taft. Hamilton's son and daughter-in-law are also UD alums.
Drew Moyer is a regional sales executive at IGS Energy, where he drives new business development and delivers customized electricity and natural gas solutions to meet commercial and industrial clients’ needs. Moyer is serving as a recent alumni trustee, a position for members three to eight years post-graduation with a record of student and alumni engagement in volunteer and philanthropy initiatives and continued involvement with UD.
Moyer earned a bachelor’s degree in communication management with a minor in business marketing. As a student, he served as Student Government Association president, president’s emissary, advancement student ambassador, philanthropy chair and resident assistant, among other leadership roles. He now serves through the University Alumni Association’s Columbus alumni community and is a member of the board of directors for Ohio DECA, a co-curricular career and technical student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for success in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
Thomas “Tom” Seamands, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, served for nearly 40 years in combat and peacetime as a human resources officer across the United States, Pacific, Europe and Middle East. Seamands’ final Army assignment before retirement was at the Pentagon as Army G1, or chief people officer, where he was responsible for human capital support for 1.3 million soldiers and civilians. He also served as commanding general of the Army’s human resources command, director of military personnel management, United States Army Forces Command G1 and chief of the Army’s senior leader development office.
Today, Seamands is a senior principal at McChrystal Group in Alexandria, Virginia. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from UD while participating in the University’s Army ROTC program, and met his wife Melissa ‘81, while enrolled. He also earned a master’s degree in business management from Webster University and completed postgraduate work as a National Security Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and the MIT National Security Seminar XXI. He was recognized by UD in 2022 with its Distinguished Alumni Award.
Father John Thompson, S.M. has served as vice president for mission at St. Mary’s University since July 2021. Before becoming vice president for mission, he served on St. Mary’s board for four years. During that same period, he was pastor of Holy Rosary in San Antonio, a largely Hispanic-serving parish with an aging membership. His efforts to rebuild the parish for youth and young adults strengthened the parish, St. Mary’s and surrounding neighborhoods.
Thompson has served as a teacher, minister, chaplain, pastor and president in secondary and higher education for more than 30 years, in parishes and with the poor in Mexico. He previously spent 12 years as chaplain and president at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory in Florida and as a chaplain and assistant professor in education at Chaminade University. A New York native, he entered the Society of Mary in 1990 and was ordained in 1999.
