Daprano named University of Dayton School of Education and Health Sciences dean

Corinne Daprano, School of Education and Health Sciences dean

The University of Dayton has appointed Corinne Daprano dean of the University of Dayton School of Education and Health Sciences, effective June 1. Daprano served as the school's interim dean this past academic year.

Daprano's knowledge of the school and the University; relationships across campus; commitment to UD's mission as a Catholic and Marianist university; and leadership experience position her well to carry out the responsibilities of the dean's office, according to Darlene Weaver, UD provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

As dean, Daprano, a UD Marianist Educational Associate, will lead a team of more than 184 faculty and staff in six academic departments and two centers, which serve more than 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students.

"Dr. Daprano has consistently demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and the mission of our University,” Weaver said. “Having managed the School of Education and Health Sciences through multiple transitional periods with grace, she has earned the trust and respect of her peers. Under her leadership over the last year, the SEHS accelerated the expansion of our health professions offerings, increased curricular agility in teacher education and advanced a number of operational improvements. I am confident the school will continue to innovate, grow and deepen its impact on our students and the broader community."

Daprano joined the University in 2001. In addition to her stint as interim dean last academic year, she also was the school's interim dean for the 2019-20 academic year. Daprano also has been an associate dean for faculty and staff development and chair of the department of health and sport science in the School of Education and Health Sciences, and president, vice president and secretary of UD's academic senate.

"It is an honor to be named dean of the School of Education and Health Sciences, a place I have proudly called my academic home for 25 years,” Daprano said. “Having worked alongside our exceptional faculty, staff and students in various capacities, I know firsthand the passion and dedication that define our school. Grounded in our Marianist values, our commitment to educating the whole person, our emphasis on interprofessional education, and our deep appreciation for the ways our students and faculty serve in their communities, I look forward to leading SEHS into this next chapter as we continue to prepare our students to lead and serve with distinction."

As a professor of sport management, Daprano's scholarship focuses on the management of sport, fitness/health and recreation organizations; diversity and social justice in sport; and leadership and organizational change. She has taught courses on organizational behavior, leadership, sport law and sport sociology.

Daprano is a 2019 UD Lackner Award winner, which goes to a lay UD employee who has made a significant contribution to the Catholic and Marianist character of the University, In 2020, she was a "Woman of UD" honoree.

Daprano earned her doctorate in sport management from The Ohio State University, and master's and bachelor's degrees from Cleveland State University.
