More than 2,500 men’s college basketball players this year entered the transfer portal. Six have found their way to Dayton.
Returning from last year’s Flyer team are two starters, senior guard Javon Bennett and sophomore forward Amaël L’Etang, as well as two other forwards, senior Jacob Conner and redshirt sophomore Jaiun Simon, and three junior walk-on guards, Evan Dickey, Makai Grant and Will Maxwell.
Transfers are redshirt senior forward Keonte Jones, senior guard Jordan Derkack, junior guard De’Shayne Montgomery, sophomore guards Bryce Heard and Adam Njie, and redshirt freshman forward Malcolm Thomas. The squad’s rounded out with two freshmen, forward Damon Friery and guard Jaron McKie.
The schedule includes 18 Atlantic 10 Conference games, with two each against Duquesne, George Washington, Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis and VCU. The Flyers also will host Davidson, Fordham, Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure and travel to George Mason, La Salle, Richmond and Saint Joseph’s.
Non-conference highlights include a trip to Cincinnati’s home court (Nov. 11), a. trip to Marquette (Nov. 19) and Florida State coming to the Arena Dec. 16. Those three games are each part of a home-and-home series. Dayton will travel to Charlotte Dec. 6 to play Virginia and to Orlando, Florida, Nov. 27-28 to play Georgetown and either Brigham Young or Miami (Florida).
